Andy Dalton named Eagles’ primary backup for Week 1

The Philadelphia Eagles have named Andy Dalton Jalen Hurts’ primary backup for their Week 1 game against the Washington Commanders, according to Yahoo Sports.
Tanner McKee is listed as the emergency third quarterback and may enter only if both quarterbacks ahead of him are injured. Cole Payton, the Eagles’ fourth-string quarterback, is inactive and ineligible to play.
The Eagles’ inactive list also includes edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, wide receiver Elijah Moore and offensive lineman Micah Morris. Moore and Morris are described as healthy scratches rather than injury-related absences.
Greenard recently returned to limited practice after missing training camp with a pectoral strain. His possible return in Week 2 remains unconfirmed.
Philadelphia will have six active wide receivers and nine offensive linemen for the game. Dalton, who is set to turn 39 next month, has been assigned the Week 1 backup role only; the available information does not establish a permanent season-long depth-chart decision.
