The New York Yankees have left captain Aaron Judge off their roster for the best-of-five American League Division Series against the Tampa Bay Rays as he recovers from a right calf injury.

The Associated Press report carried by Fox Sports says Judge has not played since 16 September. He also missed New York’s two-game Wild Card Series sweep of Boston.

Ryan Weathers was added as an 11th pitcher, while utilityman Amed Rosario was dropped. Rosario had two plate appearances in the Wild Card Series, recording a walk and a strikeout.

Giancarlo Stanton remains on the 26-man roster despite not playing since 24 April because of strains in both calf muscles. He was active for the Boston series but did not appear in either game.

The report says Judge played 66 games this season after a fractured rib and a right calf injury. He hit .241 with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs, with an .871 OPS.
