The New York Islanders beat the New Jersey Devils 6-0 in their home opener on Saturday, with Ilya Sorokin making 36 saves for his 30th career shutout, according to the Associated Press.

Six Islanders scored: Simon Holmstrom, Brayden Schenn, Bo Horvat, Viktor Eklund, Ondrej Palat and Casey Cizikas. Eklund’s third-period goal was his first in the NHL.

Holmstrom and Schenn scored 1 minute 28 seconds apart early in the second period. New York added two more goals in the period, including Horvat’s power-play goal, to take a three-goal lead into the third.

Eklund assisted on Schenn’s goal before scoring himself. Palat followed 42 seconds later, and Cizikas completed the scoring with a short-handed goal.

The win followed New York’s loss to Toronto on Wednesday. New Jersey, whose Nico Daws made 26 saves, suffered its first loss of the season.

The Devils were scheduled to host Utah on Tuesday, while the Islanders were due to visit the New York Rangers.
