WTA sets equal prize money across combined 1000 events from 2027
The Italian, Canadian and Cincinnati Opens are due to join events already paying women and men equally, alongside changes to player commitments in the 2027 calendar.

The Women’s Tennis Association says every combined WTA 1000 tournament will award equal prize money to women and men from 2027. The plan brings the Italian, Canadian and Cincinnati Opens into line with other events in the category.
The WTA said the move completes equal prize money across combined 1000-level events. Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and China already offer equal payouts, as do the United Cup and the four Grand Slams.
The announcement is part of a broader 2027 calendar plan. The WTA expects 55 tournaments across 26 countries and territories, with the season-ending WTA Finals scheduled to move to Charlotte for at least three years.
Top-50 players will be required to enter four WTA 500 tournaments, down from six. The WTA also plans an expanded WTA 250 event in Manila next year.
The WTA has not specified prize amounts or how the equal payouts will be implemented. Its plan applies to combined WTA 1000 tournaments and does not establish equal prize money across every tennis event.
