Autumn calendar puts women’s sport fixtures in focus
A Yahoo Sports column highlights WNBA playoffs, Claire Hutton’s US national team selection and an Unrivaled event in Boston.
Women’s sport has a busy autumn ahead, with WNBA playoff match-ups and international football among the events highlighted by a Yahoo Sports column published on 1 October. The column also mentions an Unrivaled stop in Boston, though the supplied material gives no further details.
Claire Hutton has been named to the 26-player US women’s national team roster for matches against Spain on 10 and 13 October. The Bay FC player was not released for the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland over summer because the tournament fell outside an official FIFA window, according to the column.
The WNBA playoffs have drawn strong audience interest. Indiana’s 102–85 Game 1 loss to Las Vegas averaged 2.1 million viewers, a figure Front Office Sports described as a record for a WNBA playoff game, as cited by Yahoo Sports. A’ja Wilson scored 38 points for Las Vegas.
The column also points to New York’s semi-final series against Atlanta after the Liberty swept top-seeded Minnesota. Dallas forced a deciding Game 3 against Golden State with a 108–100 overtime win, in which Arike Ogunbowale scored a reported playoff-record 45 points.
