WiiM’s capable HomePod-esque smart speaker is almost $50 off
The Verge reports 15 per cent price cuts on Sound and Sound Lite models, offering connectivity alternatives to major tech ecosystem lock-in

WiiM is offering a 15 per cent discount on its Sound and Sound Lite smart speakers, reducing the price of the Sound model from $299.99 to $254.15 and the Sound Lite from $229 to $194.65. The promotion is available through Amazon and directly via WiiM, marking a rare price reduction for the black and white versions of the devices which typically maintain steady pricing.

The smart speaker sector remains heavily consolidated among major technology firms, with Apple, Google, Sonos, and Amazon controlling the majority of market share. WiiM positions its Sound speaker as a direct alternative to Apple’s HomePod, distinguishing itself through open connectivity standards rather than ecosystem exclusivity.

Technical specifications for the discounted units include support for over 20 music services, alongside Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and ethernet ports. The devices are compatible with Chromecast, Spotify Connect, DLNA, and Alexa Cast, allowing them to integrate into existing multi-room setups within the Google Home or Amazon Echo ecosystems.

The Sound Lite model shares the same physical dimensions, connectivity options, and performance output as the full Sound unit, including the ability to use AI to adapt sound quality to room acoustics. However, it omits the 1.8-inch touch display for album art and does not include a voice remote, which can be purchased separately for approximately $33.

While the speakers do not support AirPlay 2, that capability is available on WiiM’s Pro Music Streamer. Users can wirelessly pair the Sound and Sound Lite speakers with other recent WiiM products to construct a surround sound configuration.
