China’s Wang Xiyu came back from a set down to defeat the Philippines’ Alex Eala 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the Asian Games women’s singles semifinal on Thursday, ending Eala’s bid for gold.

Wang, ranked 85th, will meet compatriot Zhang Shuai in the final. Zhang advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva.

Eala, the world No. 18 and the Philippines’ top seed, said Wang had been more consistent and that she had experienced ups and downs during the match.

The loss leaves Eala set to receive at least a bronze medal in singles, according to Al Jazeera Global News. She previously won singles bronze at the Asian Games and mixed doubles bronze at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
