Vikings’ Adams carted from preseason debut; injury status unclear

Minnesota Vikings defender Jamal Adams was carted to the locker room during the team’s preseason debut against the New York Giants on Saturday. The incident occurred with 13 minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the second quarter, shortly after Adams played 11 defensive snaps in the contest.

Adams, who signed a one-year contract with the Vikings on the eve of training camp last month, was removed from the field following a play involving pass defence on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart to Malachi Fields. The specific nature and severity of the injury were not immediately clear at the time of reporting.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed disappointment regarding the departure, noting the impact Adams had made in a short period. O’Connell confirmed that the organisation is supporting the 30-year-old, stating, "Our organization, we've got our arms around him. And he's a part of this thing."

Adams was originally selected as a first-round pick by the New York Jets in 2017 and has made three Pro Bowls. However, he has struggled with injuries in the latter half of his career, playing nine or fewer games in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons.

The Vikings have utilised Adams at both safety and linebacker positions during training camp, despite him moving to linebacker last season while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. O’Connell indicated that other players would need to step up in his absence, though no further medical details were provided.
