Rinus Veekay Calls Out Christian Rasmussen After Early Freedom 250 Crash
MOTORSPORT

Rinus VeeKay has publicly directed his frustration at Christian Rasmussen following a chaotic multi-car crash on lap 42 of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. VeeKay, who was positioned in second place after a pit stop prior to the restart, was knocked into the outside wall and eliminated from the race.

In post-race comments, VeeKay did not hold back in his critique of Rasmussen. "Honestly, if Rasmussen's around, you know you're gonna crash," VeeKay said. "Either he does or you do. So, it sucks, it's stupid. It's a long race, some people seemingly don't know that."

VeeKay described the impact as a "pretty vicious hit from the left rear," noting that he had not seen the full sequence of events behind him. "I got hit from behind, and I was a passenger after that," he added. He also noted the timing of the incident, stating, "We got a very lucky break on that yellow, I already pitted, and it went yellow right after, so really good luck there."

However, broadcast replays of the incident suggest the fault may lie elsewhere. Footage indicates that Marcus Armstrong made initial contact with the rear of Rasmussen's car while entering Turn 5, a blind corner. This initial bump forced Rasmussen directly into VeeKay, sending the latter into the wall.

Armstrong was able to continue racing after the collision, while VeeKay was eliminated. The replay analysis suggests VeeKay may have been directing his post-race frustration at the wrong driver in the heat of the moment, as he had not yet viewed the full sequence of the crash.

Neither VeeKay nor Rasmussen had responded publicly to the comments at the time of reporting, and an official determination of fault by race stewards had not yet been confirmed.
