Valve leaks Steam Frame setup videos ahead of summer launch
Promotional materials for Valve’s upcoming virtual reality headset appeared briefly on the ARM Steam client, offering a detailed look at the device’s accessories and streaming capabilities.
Valve has inadvertently released a series of videos demonstrating the unboxing and setup process for the Steam Frame, its upcoming virtual reality headset. The promotional materials appeared on the ARM Steam client following a software update but were swiftly removed. According to the Steam Hardware Updates account on X, the videos were “quickly pulled” after their appearance, though the specific reason for the leak and subsequent removal has not been explicitly stated.
The demonstrations provide a closer look at the device’s hardware features and user experience. One video shows how users can utilise the headset’s “pivot arms” to adjust its position. Another segment details the insertion of a spacer beneath the face gasket, a feature designed specifically for users who wear glasses. These details offer practical insight into the ergonomics of the headset before its official release.
The leaked content also highlights the connectivity options available for the Steam Frame. A wireless dongle can be plugged into a PC or a Steam Machine to stream games directly to the headset. This functionality allows the device to operate as a streaming client for existing gaming libraries, in addition to playing games locally.
An “Ergonomic Accessories Kit” was also featured in the videos. The kit includes hand straps to keep hands attached to the controllers, as well as a top head strap intended to improve weight distribution and provide extra headset stability. Additionally, the kit contains an extended light blocker, designed for users with smaller noses to better seal the area between their face and the device.
The Steam Frame was first announced by Valve last year. It features LCD screens with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 per eye, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and offers a field of view of up to 110 degrees. While Valve has not confirmed an exact launch date, the company has previously indicated that the headset is planned for release this summer.
Recent developments suggest a launch may be imminent. In addition to the leaked setup videos, a recent 13-ton shipment of VR headsets has been noted as a potential indicator that the product is close to hitting the market. Links to the leaked videos have been shared on Reddit, allowing interested parties to view the demonstrations despite their removal from the official client.
