USA and France set for Women’s Basketball World Cup final
The United States recovered from a tied third quarter against Spain, while France reached its first final by defeating hosts Germany.
The United States and France will meet in Sunday’s Women’s Basketball World Cup final after contrasting semifinal victories in Berlin.
The defending champions overcame Spain 76–66 after the teams were level at 58–58 after three quarters. The Americans opened the final period with a 12–2 run and outscored Spain by 10 points in the quarter.
Breanna Stewart led the United States with 16 points, while Kahleah Copper added 13. Caitlin Clark scored one point and committed two turnovers as Spain’s defence applied sustained pressure.
France secured its first World Cup final with an 86–64 win over hosts Germany. Gabby Williams led the French with 22 points, five assists and four steals as France preserved its unbeaten record in the tournament.
The final will reprise the 2024 Olympic gold-medal game, which the United States won by one point. The Americans have also extended their reported World Cup winning streak to 35 matches, according to Al Jazeera Global News.
