US Open semi-finals put Zverev’s form against American hopes
Alexander Zverev faces Karen Khachanov before Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe meet with American tennis chasing its first men’s major champion since 2003.
The US Open men’s singles semi-finals are set for 11 September, with Alexander Zverev facing Karen Khachanov before Ben Shelton meets Frances Tiafoe at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Zverev is favoured by Sky Sports to reach the final and claim a second Grand Slam title of 2026. The German won the French Open earlier this year and reached the Wimbledon final, while holding a 6–3 career record against Khachanov.
Khachanov is seeking his first major final after reaching the US Open semi-finals in 2022 and the Australian Open semi-finals in 2023. Their match is scheduled for 3pm local time.
Shelton reached his third major semi-final after defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in what Sky Sports described as the latest-finishing match in tournament history. Tiafoe also advanced after recovering from two sets and a break down to beat Alex Michelsen.
The Shelton–Tiafoe winner would be the first Black American man to reach a US Open final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. The match is scheduled for 7pm, with either player also seeking to end the wait for an American men’s Grand Slam champion since Andy Roddick’s 2003 US Open victory.
Zverev has won all five of his previous meetings with Shelton and leads Tiafoe 9–1. The scheduled match times may change.
