US envoys arrive in Kyiv after talks with Putin yield no breakthrough

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a day after more than three hours of discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
The White House said the Moscow meeting covered “substantive plans” for next steps towards ending the war, which it said would be announced in the coming weeks. The terms of those plans have not been disclosed.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as constructive, frank and useful, but no agreement or independently confirmed breakthrough was announced.
The Kyiv meeting is taking place as Russia and Ukraine continue to report drone and missile strikes. Ukrainian and Russian authorities reported casualties and damage, but the figures have not been independently verified.
Russia’s deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, said the possibility of a trilateral meeting involving the leaders of Russia, the United States and China had not been ruled out. He said the agenda would need to be defined before preparations could begin.
