United States and France set for women’s FIBA World Cup final
The United States will defend its title against France in Berlin after both teams won their semifinals.
The United States and France will meet in the women’s FIBA World Cup final in Berlin on Sunday after winning their respective semifinals.
The United States defeated Spain 76–66, with Breanna Stewart leading the defending champions with 16 points. France reached the final by defeating host Germany, securing its best-ever World Cup finish regardless of Sunday’s result.
The final is an Olympic rematch after the United States beat France by one point in the 2024 Paris final. Players from both teams said that result would not determine the World Cup contest, pointing instead to the different teams and players involved.
More than half of the United States roster was not part of the Olympic team. Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers are among those playing for their first championship with the national team, while Stewart is seeking a fourth World Cup title.
The United States has won 35 consecutive World Cup matches and four straight championships, according to France 24. France has not won a World Cup medal since taking bronze at the inaugural tournament in 1953.
