Ukraine's Air Force intercepts majority of Russian drone and missile barrage across eight regions

Overnight Russian strikes across eight regions of Ukraine have resulted in at least five fatalities and 30 injuries, according to official reports from Kyiv. The city of Dnipro emerged as the primary target, where authorities confirmed more than 20 individuals were wounded. Among the casualties in Dnipro were two police officers and a nine-year-old child, prompting a sustained rescue operation at a residential building.
The scale of the offensive saw Russia launch 619 drones and 47 missiles against Ukrainian territory. Ukraine's Air Force reported that air defences successfully neutralised 610 of these incoming threats. Despite the high interception rate, the attacks caused substantial structural damage, affecting six homes, five high-rise buildings, a post office, and a church.
Specific incidents of loss of life were recorded in other regions as well. Two fatalities occurred in Nizhyn within the Chernihiv region, while emergency services in Kharkiv attended to a one-year-old boy who was injured during the raids. Further reports from the Donetsk Governor indicated separate injuries in the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, highlighting the widespread nature of the assault.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the tactics employed by the aggressor, noting that the focus remains on targeting civilian infrastructure in urban centres. He emphasised that the recent pause in sanctions implementation, attributed to opposition from Hungary, had provided Russia with additional time to adapt its military strategy. Consequently, the President has urged European leaders to expedite a new sanctions package targeting Russia's energy, banking, and trade sectors.
The current wave of violence follows a previous strike on the port city of Odesa that claimed the lives of a 75-year-old married couple. Ukrainian authorities stated that the latest attacks also destroyed residential buildings and struck a foreign ship, underscoring the continued threat to both civilian populations and critical infrastructure.
