Prison officials said the lethal injection attempt failed. Pike was taken from a Nashville prison for medical treatment, with her condition and possible next legal steps unclear.

Tennessee’s attempt to execute death row inmate Christa Pike by lethal injection late Wednesday was unsuccessful, prison officials said, according to France 24.
Pike was taken from Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville for medical treatment. Her condition after the attempt was not immediately known.
It was also unclear what legal steps Pike’s lawyers or the state might pursue next. Officials did not explain why the attempt was unsuccessful.
Pike was convicted of murdering a schoolmate about three decades ago. The attempt was reported as Tennessee’s first effort to execute a woman in two centuries.
