British counter-terrorism police have arrested a 27-year-old dual UK-Iranian national in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts linked to an incident near RAF Fairford. The arrest was announced on Thursday, 1 October.

Five men arrested earlier in the investigation were released without charge on police bail. A 26-year-old British man was questioned under caution, and searches were conducted at two properties.

Police said they are examining possible foreign-state involvement. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said an Iranian link was possible; Iran denies involvement and has called the accusations baseless.

Police said petrol was found in vans used by the five men, but no improvised explosive device was found. The circumstances of the incident and any suspected plot remain unclear.

RAF Fairford has been used by US bombers for missions against Iran, according to France 24 International. Police have not established a foreign-state link, and the arrest does not establish guilt.
