UConn’s non-conference slate ends before Christmas
The Huskies are scheduled to play LSU on 20 December, with Geno Auriemma citing conference realignment as a hurdle to finding late-season non-league games.
UConn women’s basketball is set to finish its non-conference schedule before New Year’s Eve for the first time since the 1993–94 season. Its final non-league game is scheduled for 20 December against LSU at the espnW Invitational in Nashville.
The schedule puts all 12 non-conference games and three Big East games before winter break. UConn has often played non-conference opponents in January and February in previous seasons.
Coach Geno Auriemma said he would prefer to spread the games across the season. He said conference realignment has made it harder to schedule non-conference games in January and February.
The Big Ten expanded to 18 members in 2024, with each team required to play 18 conference games. The SEC expanded to 16 teams that year, and each team is required to play 16 conference games.
UConn is also scheduled to host Tennessee on 12 December in Hartford. The report identifies the game as part of a double-header involving the women’s and men’s programmes.
