Rory Grugan retires after 157 appearances for Armagh
The 35-year-old was part of Armagh’s 2024 All-Ireland-winning side and its 2025 Ulster title-winning team.
Armagh footballer Rory Grugan has announced his retirement from inter-county football after 157 appearances. He made the announcement on Instagram, writing: “The greatest honour of my life. Thank you.”
Grugan started Armagh’s 2024 All-Ireland final win over Galway, as the county claimed the Sam Maguire Cup for the second time.
He also featured off the bench in Armagh’s extra-time win over Monaghan in the 2025 Ulster final, securing the county’s first provincial title in 18 years.
The Ballymacnab player made his championship debut in a 2013 qualifier victory over Wicklow. He was 35 when he retired.
Yahoo Sports also reported that Crossmaglen defender James Morgan has announced his inter-county retirement. Morgan and Grugan were part of Armagh’s 2009 All-Ireland Minor-winning team.
