Typhoon 6 Forecast to Bring Violent Winds to Okinawa and Amami
Authorities urge residents across Kyushu to Kanto to prepare for heavy rain ahead of the typhoon’s arrival.

Typhoon No. 6 is projected to approach the Okinawa and Amami Islands with strong intensity between 1 and 2 June 2026, according to forecasts from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The agency has warned that the region will face violent winds and heavy rain as the system draws closer.
The Japan Meteorological Agency indicated that the typhoon is expected to maintain a strong structure during its approach. Residents in the southern islands are being advised to take immediate precautions against the severe weather conditions anticipated over the weekend.
In addition to the direct impact on Okinawa and Amami, the JMA has highlighted risks for other parts of the country. Heavy rain is anticipated in regions stretching from Kyushu to the Kanto and Chubu areas, including the Kanto-Koshinetsu zone, even before the typhoon itself arrives.
This weather event follows a period of intense heat across Japan. On 30 May 2026, widespread areas experienced temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, with severe heat expected to continue in the days leading up to the typhoon’s arrival.
Authorities are urging residents across the affected regions to prepare for severe weather conditions. The forecast remains subject to revision as the date of the typhoon’s approach nears, with the exact intensity and track potentially changing.
