Trump reaffirms religious freedom commitment in Yom Kippur message

President Donald Trump has sent greetings to the Jewish community for Yom Kippur, describing the holy day as the “Sabbath of Sabbaths” and reaffirming his Administration’s commitment to freedom of religion.
In a message published by the White House on 20 September, Trump said Yom Kippur allowed Jewish people to renew their relationship with the Creator through fasting, prayer and charity.
The message marked the close of the High Holy Days and referred to themes of repentance, faith and the year ahead.
Trump said his Administration was resolved to defend every American’s “sacred right to freedom of religion”. The statement set out the Administration’s position but did not detail measures or implementation arrangements.
He concluded by wishing the Jewish community renewed strength and abundant faith, while invoking a blessing for the United States.
