Trump Highlights Oval Office ‘Negotiation’ Advantage During Dodgers Visit
Donald Trump told the Los Angeles Dodgers that the Oval Office is ideal for diplomacy because visitors feel “discombobulated” upon entering, while also detailing recent structural upgrades to the residence.
President Donald Trump hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers at the White House on July 23, 2026, to mark the team’s 2025 World Series victory. During a ceremony in the Rose Garden, Principal Owner and Chairman Mark Walter presented the President with an honorary championship ring and a jersey bearing the number 47. Trump accepted the gifts, noting the ring’s quality before placing it in his jacket pocket.
In his remarks, Trump shifted focus to the proximity of the Oval Office, describing it as the centre of global power. He stated that the Rose Garden was now “equipped” for such ceremonies, a change he attributed to recent developments within the executive residence. He emphasised that the office is where “everything begins and ends,” citing recent high-profile engagements including a visit from King Charles three weeks prior and an upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in mid-August.
The President offered a specific rationale for his preference for conducting business in the Oval Office, claiming the environment provides a tactical advantage. He told the group that regardless of who enters, they feel a distinct shift in atmosphere. “It’s a great place to negotiate because everyone’s all discombobulated when they walk in and it’s a great time for me to negotiate with them,” Trump said.
Trump also used the occasion to outline recent renovations to the White House, including a new ballroom, a military facility, and a helipad. He explained that the helipad was constructed because new helicopters performed poorly on grass surfaces. He asserted that these upgrades were bringing the building to a standard not seen since its construction in 1792, adding that he enjoyed the work “as a real estate person.”
Following the ceremony, Trump promised to take the team into the Oval Office to present them with a commemorative coin. The visit follows the Dodgers’ previous White House appearance in April 2025, which celebrated their 2024 World Series win. The event occurs amidst heightened scrutiny of security protocols at White House functions following recent investigations into threats against the President.
