President Donald Trump has reiterated his assertion that the United States maintains ‘total control’ over the Strait of Hormuz, intensifying a diplomatic and rhetorical clash with Tehran. The statement, made on 13 August 2026, underscores the deepening divergence between Washington and Iran regarding the governance and security of the critical maritime chokepoint.

In response, the Iranian government has remained resolute in its position, rejecting the US claim of dominance.
