Trump approval falls to 32 per cent as cost-of-living concerns deepen
A Reuters/Ipsos poll reported by Al Jazeera shows declining support among Republicans amid economic concerns and the Iran war.
US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 32 per cent, reportedly the lowest of his political career, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll reported by Al Jazeera.
Approval among Republicans fell to 73 per cent, from 82 per cent in the poll conducted a week earlier. Trump’s overall approval had stood at 35 per cent in that survey, compared with 47 per cent shortly after his January 2025 inauguration.
Cost-of-living pressures were the leading concern in the latest poll. Only 17 per cent of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the issue, while Republican disapproval outnumbered approval, 51 per cent to 44 per cent.
The poll reported that the Iran war, launched in February, had coincided with higher petrol and diesel prices. Trump has said the United States is “hopefully toward the end” of the war, while fighting continues in Yemen. Iran has not confirmed that direct negotiations with Washington have resumed.
The findings come ahead of the 3 November midterm elections, in which Republicans are defending narrow congressional majorities. The poll does not establish whether the shift in approval will affect the result.
Reuters/Ipsos collected responses from 1,277 US adults online over four days. The poll reported a margin of error of three percentage points.
