Tompkins and Holliday Claim Titles at 2026 Texas UIL State Track and Field Championships
Despite windy conditions impacting several potential national records, Tompkins secured the Class 6A boys team title while Holliday claimed Class 1A honours, highlighted by record-breaking individual performances.

The 2026 Texas UIL State Track and Field Championships concluded with a series of historic performances, although strong winds disrupted several potential national records across the event. Tompkins secured the Class 6A boys team title, anchored by Andrew Jones, who earned the Class 6A Performer of the Meet award. Jones delivered a standout performance in the 110 hurdles, recording a time of 13.01 seconds. While slightly wind-aided at 2.6 metres per second, the result tied for the second-fastest all-conditions time in high school history. He subsequently won the 300 hurdles in 36.00 seconds to complete his award-winning weekend.
Hamilton, also competing for Tompkins, delivered what was described as the most anticipated race of the meet in the 200 metres. His time of 19.86 seconds stands as the fastest all-conditions high school 200m time in history, albeit with a massive wind aid. Hamilton was also instrumental in Tompkins’ relay success, contributing to a championship 4x100m relay team and a runner-up finish in the 4x200m. The former University of Texas at El Paso football signee indicated that the strength of a university’s track program would be a key factor in his upcoming college decision.
In Class 3A, Capehart established a new division record in the 100 metres with a legal time of 10.02 seconds, aided by a permissible 1.9 metres per second tailwind. This performance ranks him as the seventh fastest high school 100m runner in history and the fastest 3A sprinter in Texas history, surpassing the previous mark of 10.38 seconds. Capehart also finished sixth in the long jump and won the 200 metres in 20.48 seconds.
A traditional powerhouse in Class 6A girls competition won the team title, setting a nation-leading time of 1:33.95 in the 4x400m relay, narrowly missing their own national record of 1:33.43. The team also finished fourth in the 4x400m relay. Lancaster, a member of the winning squad, recorded the fourth-fastest all-conditions high school 100m time in the nation this year with a 11.14-second run. Cavitt won the Class 6A long jump with a national outdoor leader mark of 20-7, outperforming her regional best by a foot.
In Class 1A, Holliday secured the team title through the dominance of an Oklahoma State signee, who swept the 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m events. The athlete finished their high school career with an undefeated 11-0 record at state meets. Additionally, a junior female athlete won the Class 1A girls Performer of the Meet award by completing the same distance triple, finishing tied for third in the overall team standings.
