Giants’ Harbaugh critiques renovated training facility as ‘not the Taj Mahal’

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh has described the team’s upgraded Quest Diagnostics Training Center as “not the Taj Mahal,” signalling that further improvements are required despite recent renovations. Speaking during the 2026 NFL training camp, Harbaugh admitted the facility is currently “as good as we could do right now” but emphasised that the work is not yet complete.
The Giants had delayed access to the training centre while upgrades were finalised, a move that coincided with the broader preparation period for the upcoming season. With the majority of NFL teams currently utilising their respective facilities for training camp, the Giants’ restricted access was a notable operational adjustment during the pre-season build-up.
Harbaugh’s comparison to the Taj Mahal was not intended as praise. By invoking one of the world’s seven wonders, the coach highlighted the gap between the current state of the facility and the level of luxury and comfort he expects for his players. The remark was framed as a strategic effort to motivate the squad to help transform the upgraded space into a proper home base.
“I can’t sit here and lie to you and say it doesn’t. It does. It’s not the Taj Mahal over there. We have to make it better,” Harbaugh said. He noted that while the current state reflects the maximum feasible outcome given immediate constraints, the team would quickly identify remaining deficiencies once full operations resumed.
The comments come as the Giants navigate the final weeks of training camp. Harbaugh and his coaching staff are expected to focus on making the facility feel like a permanent home for the roster, addressing the shortcomings identified during the initial phase of the renovations.
