Three killed in Los Angeles media helicopter crash near bus collision
An NBC4 helicopter crashed while covering a separate collision involving an SUV and a bus, with one person taken to hospital.
Three people were killed when a media helicopter crashed in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, while covering a deadly bus collision, according to France 24 International.
The helicopter came down about a block from the bus-crash scene, sending smoke into the air and causing a fire involving apparent shipping containers and cars. Images from the scene showed the wreckage of the aircraft in the flames.
Police confirmed the aircraft was a media helicopter after local broadcaster NBC4 reported it had lost contact with its crew. NBC4 later confirmed the helicopter belonged to the station.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said four patients had been assessed at the helicopter-crash scene. Three were declared dead and one was taken to hospital in unknown condition.
One of those killed appeared to have been a pedestrian on the ground, according to the initial account. The identities of those aboard the helicopter had not been confirmed, and the cause of the crash was not reported.
The helicopter crash followed a separate collision in which an SUV struck a bus in Chatsworth, killing three people and injuring many others. The fatalities from the two incidents are separate.
