Texas projected to lead CFP field after comeback over Ohio State
ESPN projects Texas as the No. 1 seed after its 20-point comeback, while Ohio State falls to No. 2 in an unofficial post-Week 2 projection.
Texas is projected to lead the College Football Playoff field after overturning a 20-point deficit to defeat Ohio State in Week 2. The Longhorns scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, securing what ESPN describes as the strongest win on the early playoff résumé.
ESPN’s projected order places Ohio State second, followed by Miami, Notre Dame, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, Indiana, Alabama, Texas A&M, BYU and USC. Boise State is projected as the highest-ranked Group of 6 team.
The projection is based on selection-committee criteria, including strength of schedule, quality wins, head-to-head results and conference-title prospects. It is not an official CFP ranking, and the value of Texas’s victory will depend partly on how Ohio State performs through the remainder of the season.
Ohio State remains a leading contender but is projected to have less margin for error. Key tests include Ohio State’s visit to Indiana, Texas’s trip to LSU, Miami at Notre Dame and Georgia at Alabama.
The actual selection committee rankings have not been released, and the projected order could change substantially as the season progresses. ESPN’s projected bracket currently places Texas as the No. 1 seed and Boise State in the highest-ranked Group of 6 position.
