The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 24–22 on Sunday, surviving a late Washington push after defensive tackle Moro Ojomo stopped a two-point conversion attempt with 1:01 remaining.
Jalen Hurts passed for 203 yards and three touchdowns for Philadelphia. Dallas Goedert was his leading scoring target, catching four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Williams with 1:01 left, bringing the Commanders within reach. Washington then called a shovel pass for tight end John Bates on the two-point attempt, but Ojomo wrapped up Bates immediately.
The result gave Philadelphia a 6–0 record in season openers under coach Nick Sirianni since 2021, according to the account published by Yahoo Sports.
The game was Sean Mannion’s debut as Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator. The Eagles entered the season as the two-time reigning NFC East champions, while Hurts’ three touchdown passes and Goedert’s production provided the decisive early advantage.
