Dodgers, Twins promote prospects in late-season MLB opportunity wave
Josue De Paula and Emmanuel Rodriguez have joined their clubs as potential late-season contributors, with CBS Sports ranking De Paula the priority fantasy waiver target.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins have turned to highly regarded prospects during a late-season reshuffle shaped by injuries and changing team priorities.
The Dodgers promoted outfielder Josue De Paula on Friday after Shohei Ohtani was placed on the injured list. De Paula moved directly from Double-A, where he recorded 27 home runs, 31 stolen bases, a 14 per cent walk rate and a 15 per cent strikeout rate.
He made an immediate impact, recording a 102-mph double and a 108.2-mph home run. CBS Sports described De Paula as a top-five prospect with the potential to contribute across five fantasy categories, while noting that his longer-term playing time remains uncertain once Ohtani returns.
The Twins promoted Emmanuel Rodriguez on Saturday, and he homered in his first major-league game. Rodriguez had a .257/.420/.455 line, 18 home runs and 16 stolen bases across 108 career Triple-A games.
CBS Sports characterised Rodriguez as a patient hitter with power and some athleticism, but also pointed to persistent strikeout and injury concerns. The source said both players could contribute over the final two weeks, while cautioning that an adjustment period remained possible.
De Paula was ranked the priority between the two prospects. His immediate performance may strengthen his case for a larger role, but neither his long-term position with the Dodgers nor Rodriguez’s ability to sustain production in the majors is settled.
