Tepper maintains belief Bryce Young can deliver multiple Super Bowls for Panthers
David Tepper praised Bryce Young’s record against strong opposition while declining to discuss whether Carolina has offered him a long-term contract.
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper has maintained that quarterback Bryce Young can lead the franchise to multiple Super Bowl titles, citing the player’s progress and performances against strong opposition.
Young, selected first overall by Carolina in the 2023 NFL Draft, is under contract through 2027 after the Panthers exercised his fifth-year option. He is 14–30 as Carolina’s starting quarterback, and Tepper declined to say whether the team has offered him a long-term extension.
Tepper said Young had the talent to succeed with the right weapons and situation. He also pointed to Young’s third season, when the Panthers won the NFC South and ended a seven-year playoff drought before losing 34–31 to the Los Angeles Rams.
Young recorded career-best figures last season, passing for more than 3,000 yards with 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Tepper said the quarterback had performed at a high level against strong opposition and appeared to respond well to pressure.
The owner said Young and the Panthers now needed to start games faster. Young has recorded 12 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime over the past three seasons, but is 0–3 in Week 1 games, with Carolina outscored 97–30 in those defeats.
Tepper’s comments represent continued confidence in Young rather than evidence that the quarterback will deliver the projected titles. The Panthers’ long-term position on his contract remains unclear.
