Swiatek ends title drought in Toronto as Shelton retains Montreal crown

Swiatek established early control in the final when Rybakina surrendered a break point on consecutive double faults. The American’s unforced errors continued to plague her campaign, with missed backhands in the second set providing Swiatek with another crucial break. Although Rybakina managed to save one championship point, Swiatek converted her second opportunity to seal the match.

Following the victory, Swiatek used the post-match awards ceremony to address broader issues beyond the court. She dedicated the win to “everyone who is dealing with unfair judgement and hate,” offering a message of resilience to her supporters.

In the men’s draw in Montreal, US player Ben Shelton successfully defended his title by defeating compatriot Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 7-6 (4). Shelton did not drop a set throughout the entire tournament, becoming only the fourth man in the 21st century to win back-to-back titles at the event, joining an elite group that includes Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal.
