Steelers Wire names Timmons as the definitive No. 94 in franchise history
As the Pittsburgh Steelers count down to their match against the Atlanta Falcons, Steelers Wire highlights Lawrence Timmons’ statistical dominance and honours as the standard-bearer for jersey number 94, while current wearer Yahya Black prepares for his second campaign.

With the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2026 NFL regular season commencing in 94 days, Steelers Wire has released a feature identifying the most distinguished player to wear jersey number 94 in the club’s history. The countdown to the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on 13 September has prompted a review of the franchise’s numerical legacy, with former linebacker Lawrence Timmons emerging as the definitive choice for the designation.
Timmons, who was selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, spent a decade in Pittsburgh before concluding his career with a final season at the Miami Dolphins. Over an 11-year NFL tenure, he appeared in 172 career games, making 140 starts. His statistical portfolio includes 1,067 combined tackles, 71 tackles for loss, 86 quarterback hits, 13 forced fumbles, and 12 interceptions.
His peak performance was recognised in 2014 when he earned Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro honours. A Super Bowl champion and a central figure in the Steelers’ defensive units from the late 2000s to the early 2010s, Timmons is cited by Steelers Wire as the player who has not been dethroned as the best to wear the number.
The jersey is currently held by Yahya Black, a second-year defensive lineman described by the publication as a "behemoth" on the roster. Black is expected to make a significant impact during the upcoming 2026 campaign as the Steelers prepare to host the season opener in the Steel City.
The Steelers’ 2026 schedule features a diverse array of opponents, including home and away matches against the Patriots, Bengals, Browns, Colts, Buccaneers, Texans, Jaguars, Ravens, and Titans. Notably, the team will play the New Orleans Saints in Paris on 25 October and face the Denver Broncos in a Black Friday night game on 27 November.
