StarNews opens voting for 2026 boys lacrosse player of the year
Voters have until June 25 to select the top high school player from the region’s nine boys lacrosse programs.

The Wilmington StarNews has initiated a fan-driven poll to determine the 2026 Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year, marking the conclusion of a competitive high school season. The publication has opened its voting platform to the public, inviting readers to select the standout performer from a field of 31 nominees.
The selection process ensures broad representation across the region, with at least one nominee included from each of the area’s nine boys lacrosse programs. This structure aims to capture the depth of talent distributed among local schools rather than concentrating recognition on a single institution.
The 2026 season was characterised by significant postseason achievements, which have informed the current discourse around the award. Hoggard secured a conference title and advanced to the state championship appearance, while Topsail also made a notable impact by reaching the state semifinals. These results highlight the competitive intensity that defined the year’s campaign.
Voters are permitted to cast multiple votes in the poll, allowing for a broader expression of opinion regarding the top candidates. The Wilmington StarNews has stated that the award is driven by fan input, positioning the result as a reflection of public sentiment rather than a panel-based editorial decision.
The voting window remains open until 11:59 p.m. on June 25. Coinciding with the boys’ poll, the StarNews has also launched a concurrent selection for the 2026 Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year, which features 26 nominees.
