SportsLine model projects over in Cardinals-Cubs clash
The Chicago Cubs enter as favourites at Wrigley Field, but the algorithm identifies value across the money line and player props.
SportsLine’s computer model has released its betting projections for the Major League Baseball matchup between the St Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs on Friday, 14 August 2026. The algorithm, which simulates every game 10,000 times, projects an over on the 8-run total and identifies value on the money line.
First pitch at Wrigley Field is scheduled for 2:20 p.m. ET. The Cubs are listed as -182 favourites on the money line, while the over/under is set at 8 runs.
The model projects the teams to combine for 8.9 total runs. Historical data supports the over, which has hit in four of the past six head-to-head meetings between the clubs. The over has also occurred in 65 of Chicago’s last 121 games, including three pushes, representing a 55 per cent hit rate.
When Matthew Liberatore starts for the Cardinals, the over has hit in 14 of 23 attempts, a 60 per cent success rate. The model entered Week 21 of the MLB season with a 45-30 record on all top-rated MLB picks.
Individual player projections are also outlined by the model. It anticipates 1.5 total bases or more for Cardinals players Alec Burleson, Jordan Walker, and J.J. Wetherholt. For the Cubs, the model projects similar output from Pete Crow-Armstrong, Seiya Suzuki, Nico Hoerner, Dansby Swanson, and Alex Bregman.
The Cardinals (61-60) sit third in the division and are 29-26 on the road this season. The Cubs (71-51) are second in the NL Central and hold a 35-24 record at home in 2026. Chicago won four of the last five meetings, though the teams have split 10 games this season.
