Spain recovered after Harry Kane hit the crossbar with a penalty, with substitutes Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal scoring to secure victory at Wembley.
Spain came from behind to beat England 3–2 at Wembley on Saturday in a Nations League match, extending the visitors’ unbeaten run to 39 matches, according to Al Jazeera.
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring after a defensive error, but England responded through Anthony Gordon in the 36th minute. Harry Kane headed England into a 2–1 lead four minutes later.
Kane had the chance to extend England’s advantage after a second-half penalty was awarded following a video review. His shot struck the crossbar.
Spain’s substitutes turned the match around. Alex Baena equalised on the hour after England lost possession, then assisted Mikel Oyarzabal’s winning goal.
The result came after Spain beat England in the Euro 2024 final. Al Jazeera reported that the 39-match unbeaten run was a record for a European team.
