Sooryavanshi becomes first Indian to reach 50 sixes in single IPL season
The 15-year-old’s 93 off 38 balls helped chase down Lucknow Super Giants’ 220/5, cementing his place in tournament history.

Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the first Indian batter to hit 50 sixes in a single Indian Premier League season, achieving the milestone during a match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants on 19 May 2026. The feat places him second on the all-time list for most sixes in a single IPL campaign, trailing only Chris Gayle’s record of 59 set in 2012.
Sooryavanshi’s achievement came during a high-stakes encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, which served as a must-win fixture for Rajasthan Royals to maintain their playoff prospects. The innings concluded with a season total of 53 sixes, surpassing previous benchmarks held by prominent power-hitters including Andre Russell, Jos Buttler, and Abhishek Sharma.
The teenager’s performance was instrumental in a successful run chase against a Lucknow Super Giants side that had posted a formidable total of 220/5. The opposition’s innings was anchored by Mitchell Marsh, who scored 96 runs, while Josh Inglis contributed 60 runs. Rajasthan Royals required a substantial response to overcome the deficit.
Sooryavanshi arrived at the crease following an opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 43 runs to leave the Royals at 75/0 inside seven overs. Sooryavanshi then accelerated the scoring rate, finishing with 93 runs off 38 balls. His innings comprised seven fours and 10 sixes, resulting in a strike rate of 244.74.
His dismissal occurred in the 14th over when he was caught by Abdul Samad at long-on. The wicket fell after Mohsin Khan bowled a slower delivery that deceived the batter, causing Sooryavanshi to mistime an attempted boundary. Despite falling short of a century, the innings confirmed his status as a significant talent in Indian cricket.
