Slack launches Slack Code to embed AI agents in team workflows
The new feature allows teams to tag AI coding agents in dedicated channels, offering full visibility into code diffs and live previews before work is shipped.
Slack has introduced Slack Code, a new feature designed to allow teams to collaborate directly with artificial intelligence agents within dedicated channels. The tool aims to reduce the friction of switching between multiple platforms by keeping the entire development process within the existing Slack environment.
Under the new system, users can tag specific coding agents, such as Anthropic’s Claude or Cognition’s Devin, to handle tasks ranging from building new features to fixing bugs. Once an agent is tagged, it spins up a project-specific code channel to tackle the assignment. This approach positions AI agents as collaborative teammates rather than standalone tools, a strategy similar to the one being promoted by SpaceXAI with its Grok Bot agents.
The dedicated channels provide full visibility into the development process. Team members can audit code diffs, review live HTML previews of the agent’s output, and provide feedback before the work is approved for shipping. This transparency is intended to ensure that human oversight remains central to the workflow, even when AI is generating the code.
Upon completion of an assignment, the coding channels are designed to archive themselves automatically. Each archived channel includes an audit log for recordkeeping purposes, providing a clear trail of the work performed and the decisions made during the process.
Slack Code is available immediately on all Slack plans. The feature integrates with AI agents available on the Slack marketplace, with founding partners including Claude Code, Devin, Vercel Agent, and GitHub Copilot. Slack states that these agents will integrate seamlessly with the new code channels, although the specific technical mechanisms for broader marketplace integration were not detailed in the launch materials.
The launch reflects a broader trend in software development where AI agents are being embedded directly into communication and collaboration tools. By moving the coding process into a shared, visible space, Slack is attempting to make AI-assisted development more accessible and auditable for enterprise teams.
