Skyridge Falcons secure 6A state lacrosse final berth with dominant semifinal win

Skyridge High School has advanced to the Utah High School Activities Association 6A girls' lacrosse state championship after defeating Lone Peak 23-6 in the semifinal. The victory, secured at Westminster University’s Dumke Field, moves the Falcons within one game of their first sanctioned state title.

Under the leadership of coach Michelle Buechner, who established the programme after the sport was sanctioned by the UHSAA in 2019, Skyridge has built a formidable record. The team improved its season standing to 20-1 following the win, maintaining an undefeated streak against Utah opponents. The Falcons have won their last three tournament contests by a combined score of 68-9, demonstrating consistent dominance in the postseason.

Sophomore Summer Buechner, the coach’s daughter, was instrumental in the semifinal victory, scoring five goals and providing six assists. She has accumulated 70 goals and 80 assists for the season, a performance that has earned her a spot on the all-state team and strong expectations for reselection this year. Other key contributors included Ellie Palmer, Tessa Jamison, and Sage Curtis, each scoring four goals, while Sophia Fife added three.

The win marks only the second time in school history that Skyridge has reached the state title contest. Coach Buechner noted the importance of maintaining focus against Lone Peak, a second-place regional team that had previously scored 10 goals against Skyridge in an earlier matchup. The Falcons' preparation, which includes rigorous training in a specially renovated basement facility, has helped them remain unthreatened in recent tournament games.

Skyridge will face Riverton in the championship match on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. Riverton is also seeking its first state lacrosse crown, setting up a final contest between two programmes aiming for historic milestones.
