Shokz unveils lighter, more capable OpenFit Air 2 and OpenRun Air 2 earbuds
The audio specialist has released two updated models that prioritise weight reduction and stability, both set to hit shelves on 27 August at a price point of $130.
Shokz has introduced two new earbud models, the OpenFit Air 2 and the OpenRun Air 2, both of which are scheduled to go on sale on 27 August. Priced at $130 each, the devices represent a significant refresh of the company’s previous lineup, with a particular focus on reducing weight and enhancing stability for active users.
The OpenFit Air 2 is a direct successor to the original model, weighing just 7.2g per unit. This represents a reduction of approximately 17 per cent compared to its predecessor. The design employs an open-ear format that avoids creating a seal in the ear canal, a feature that reduces pressure and heat build-up while allowing users to maintain quicker access to their surroundings.
In terms of performance, the OpenFit Air 2 integrates with Bluetooth 6.1 and supports multipoint connections. It offers eight hours of battery life on a single charge, which extends to 36 hours when using the included charging case. A 10-minute quick charge provides three hours of playback. The audio experience is driven by the company’s proprietary Bassphere audio driver and OpenBass 2.0 algorithm, with an angled speaker designed to direct sound toward the ear for a more natural listening experience.
While the open-ear design is beneficial for outdoor exercise, the ear-hook connection may interfere with glasses or certain hats. The original Shokz OpenAir 2 model was previously recognised by Engadget as one of the best headphones for running, a reputation the new model aims to build upon.
The second model, the OpenRun Air 2, is engineered specifically for runners. It utilises a bone conduction driver and features a design that wraps around the back of the head to prioritise stability and minimise bounce. This model is also lighter than its previous iteration and connects to the Shokz app for equalisation adjustments.
The OpenRun Air 2 provides ten hours of battery life on a single charge. Users can also benefit from a five-minute quick charge that yields two hours of playback. Both the OpenFit Air 2 and the OpenRun Air 2 are available for purchase from 27 August.
