The Seattle Seahawks have placed wide receiver Jake Bobo on season-ending injured reserve, a move that effectively ends his 2026 campaign less than three weeks before the regular season begins. According to reports from ESPN, the injury stems from a knee issue sustained during a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans on Friday, with Bobo undergoing further tests later that day.
Bobo, an undrafted free agent from the 2023 class, has spent his entire National Football League career with Seattle. His tenure with the franchise has been marked by durability and key contributions, including appearances in all 17 regular-season games in both 2023 and 2024. Notably, he recorded a 17-yard touchdown pass in Seattle’s 31-27 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game, a performance that helped secure the team’s Super Bowl title.
The loss of Bobo prompted an immediate roster adjustment from the Seahawks front office. To fill the vacancy, the team signed wide receiver Julian Hicks. Hicks had previously been waived by Seattle to create roster space for cornerback Trevon Diggs but had been on the practice squad of the Green Bay Packers prior to his re-signing with the Seahawks.
The injury arrives at a critical juncture for the defending Super Bowl champions, who are scheduled to open their 2026 campaign at home against the New England Patriots on Wednesday, 9 September. While the absence of Bobo is a setback, the Seahawks’ wide receiver corps remains deep, anchored by the return of star players Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba alongside quarterback Sam Darnold.
Darnold acknowledged the impact of Bobo’s departure, highlighting the wide receiver’s influence on the offensive unit. "He brings the juice every single day, and he just does his job," Darnold said. "So it sucks to lose Bobo, but I know he's going to attack it and be better whenever he comes back."
Bobo’s contract situation had been a point of discussion earlier this year. In March, while he was a restricted free agent, the Jacksonville Jaguars offered a two-year, $5.5 million deal. The Seahawks matched that offer to retain Bobo, a decision that now faces an early test due to the season-ending injury.
