Seahawks Cornerback Witherspoon Agrees to Record $132 Million Extension

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract extension valued at $132 million, with more than $101 million in guaranteed funds. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal will make Witherspoon the highest-paid cornerback in National Football League history.
The agreement is structured to take effect in the 2028 season. Under the terms of his existing rookie contract, Witherspoon is set to earn $5.1 million in 2026. The following year, he will receive $21.16 million after the Seahawks exercised his fifth-year option, a standard provision for first-round draft picks.
Witherspoon’s emergence as a cornerstone of the franchise was cemented during the 2025 season. Despite missing five games due to injury, he was named second-team All-Pro, recording 72 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery, half a sack, seven pass deflections, and four quarterback hits.
His performance was critical in the Seahawks’ run to Super Bowl 60 in February 2026. During the NFC Championship win over the Los Angeles Rams, Witherspoon delivered two significant pass break-ups in the fourth quarter. In the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, he recorded four tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. The turnover was recovered by Uchenna Nwosu for a 44-yard touchdown, securing the franchise’s second Super Bowl title.
A 2019 graduate of Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Witherspoon’s new contract reflects the team’s commitment to retaining its defensive leadership. The extension follows a season where his on-field contributions were instrumental in the team’s championship success.
