Seahawks camp day 15: Witherspoon focuses on football amid contract talks, fight breaks out during Family Day
Cornerback addresses valuation comments made on HBO’s Hard Knocks, while wide receiver Tory Horton exchanges words with defensive unit following a penalty during Family Day scrimmage.

The Seattle Seahawks held their 15th training camp practice on Tuesday, coinciding with Family Day, as the defending Super Bowl champions prepare for their season opener against New England on September 9 at Lumen Field. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon addressed his impending contract negotiations, stating he is focused on winning games rather than the deal, despite discussing his value in the first episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks.
During the practice, an altercation occurred after wide receiver Tory Horton was flagged for offensive pass interference and exchanged words with the defensive unit. Injuries were reported for players Hall and Wilson, though details regarding their severity are not specified.
Witherspoon, a three-time Pro Bowl cornerback, spoke to local media after the 15th practice, reiterating comments made in the first episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks. In the series, produced by NFL Films, Witherspoon described the cornerback position as the hardest outside of quarterback and argued that premier corners should be paid highly.
The first episode of the Seahawks’ Hard Knocks season aired the previous week, featuring Witherspoon’s comments on cornerback valuation. The 25-year-old player, who has only played for the Seahawks, spoke to an NFL Films camera positioned in his car, emphasizing the difficulty of guarding receivers and the need for proper compensation for elite talent.
During the Family Day scrimmage, wide receiver Tory Horton was flagged for offensive pass interference for pushing into cornerback Nathaniel Pritchett. Horton subsequently entered the defensive huddle and exchanged words with the 11 defensive players, marking what was reported as the camp’s largest altercation to date.
Witherspoon told The News Tribune that he is not currently focused on finalising his contract before the season begins. He stated that his priority is making plays and improving day by day, noting that contract discussions can get in the way of winning football games.
The second episode of Hard Knocks on this Seahawks training camp was scheduled to air on Tuesday night on HBO. The team remains focused on defending their title as they continue preparations for the upcoming NFL season.
