Colorado coach Deion Sanders said JuJu Lewis had not been demoted to third-string quarterback, despite Lewis sitting out the Buffaloes’ 29–7 loss to Texas Tech.

Isaac Wilson started after replacing Lewis during Colorado’s earlier loss to Baylor. Wilson threw four interceptions in the second half against Texas Tech. Kaneal Sweetwyne also played, completing one of two passes for seven yards.

Asked whether the playing time showed Lewis had fallen to third on the depth chart, Sanders rejected that account, saying, “It didn’t happen like that.” He did not specify what had happened to Lewis’s role.

Sanders said he did not want to single out the absent player, and Lewis was not made available to reporters after the game. The account does not establish Lewis’s official place on the quarterback depth chart.

Lewis completed 11 of 16 passes for 75 yards before being taken out against Baylor. In Colorado’s previous loss to Northwestern, he completed 19 of 29 passes for 168 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.
