Samsung’s Edge Panel offers a customisable shortcut bar for Galaxy phones
WIRED explains how Samsung Galaxy users can customise the Edge Panel for faster access to apps, tools and personal information.
Samsung Galaxy’s Edge Panel provides a swipe-access shortcut bar for apps, contacts, tasks, weather, tools, clipboard content and reminders, according to WIRED.
The feature can be enabled through Settings > Display > Edge Panels, where available. Users can choose which panels appear and reorder them, placing frequently used options where they can be reached with fewer swipes.
Available panels include Apps, People, Tasks, Weather, Tools, Clipboard and Reminder. They can provide shortcuts including screenshots, calendar events and alarms, while Tools offers a compass. Users can also edit the contents of some panels, including Apps, People and Tasks.
The Edge Panel’s activation handle can be adjusted for size, transparency, colour and screen position. Samsung devices may also offer settings to hide the panel on the lock screen or disable it in landscape mode.
Lock-screen settings are particularly relevant for panels containing clipboard or reminder information, which could otherwise be visible before the phone is unlocked. Support for individual panels and settings may vary by model, software version or region.
