Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson faces two-month absence with hamstring injury

New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is expected to miss approximately two months following a right hamstring injury sustained during a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to sources cited by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo of the NFL Network, the 22-year-old eighth-round draft pick sustained the injury on Thursday after landing awkwardly and being shoved from behind.

The injury occurred while Tyson was catching a pass at the Saints’ facility in Oxnard, California. He tested the leg before jogging off the field with athletic trainers and did not return to practice. The team has sought multiple medical perspectives on the condition, with head coach Kellen Moore declining to provide a specific timetable while assessments were ongoing.

Moore emphasised that the injury is distinct from Tyson’s previous hamstring issues during his time at Arizona State. "This has nothing to do with Jordyn's history," Moore stated, noting that any player in a similar situation involving a slipped foot and contact from behind would likely receive the same diagnosis. Tyson had practiced fully every day in training camp prior to the incident, barring one-on-one drills against defensive backs.

A recovery period of two months would align with a return around Week 6 of the regular season. This timeline precedes the Saints' scheduled trip to Paris for a game against the New York Giants, following their season opener against the Detroit Lions on 13 September. Moore acknowledged the injury could potentially extend into the regular season but expressed confidence in Tyson’s rehabilitation.

The Saints departed for California on Monday for joint practices against the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams. Moore indicated that players not participating in the California work, including Tyson, would remain in New Orleans to continue their training at the team facility.
