Saint Mary’s rugby player Dominic Peterson dies after training-run emergency
The Saint Mary’s College sophomore died on 4 September after experiencing a medical emergency while running with teammates in Moraga.
Dominic Peterson, a sophomore rugby player at Saint Mary’s College, died on 4 September after experiencing a medical emergency during a training run in Moraga.
The rugby team announced Peterson’s death on social media the following day, saying the emergency occurred on a public jogging path while he was running with teammates. The nature and cause of the medical emergency were not disclosed.
The Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District confirmed it responded to the emergency. Fire Chief Jeff Isaacs did not provide further details.
Saint Mary’s described Peterson as encouraging and hardworking, and said he was known for his contagious smile and commitment to his teammates.
The college’s men’s basketball team also publicly mourned Peterson, describing his death as an unimaginable loss and expressing solidarity with the wider Saint Mary’s community.
