Alessia Russo and Alex Greenwood have been nominated among 30 players for the women’s Ballon d’Or, according to BBC Sport.

The Arsenal forward scored 24 goals in 40 club appearances last season and finished third in last year’s voting. Greenwood, Manchester City’s captain, helped her club win the Women’s Super League and FA Cup.

They are the only England players on the nomination list. Scotland’s Caroline Weir was also included after scoring 20 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid before joining Lyon in June.

Three-time winner Aitana Bonmatí is absent after missing much of the season with a broken leg.

The award, created by France Football in 1956, is marking its 70th anniversary. The winner will be announced in London on 26 October, with the venue chosen as a tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, the inaugural men’s Ballon d’Or winner.
