Roma to wear ‘Together for Nepal’ shirts in Champions League match

AS Roma will use its opening Champions League match against Fenerbahce in Istanbul to highlight the humanitarian emergency caused by floods and landslides in Nepal.

The Italian club will wear shirts marked “Together for Nepal” and featuring the World Food Programme logo. Roma plans to auction the match-worn shirts, with the proceeds intended for the WFP’s relief efforts.

The change follows a prohibition on displaying Roma’s usual betting sponsor on team kits in Türkiye, where logos and names linked to sports betting or gambling are banned.

Al Jazeera Global News reported that more than 1,300 people have been confirmed dead and 5,000 remain missing after catastrophic floods last month. Scientists cited in the report said the flooding was linked to climate change and triggered by the collapse of part of a mountain glacier.

The initiative follows moments of silence and stadium messages for Nepal’s victims during Champions League matches earlier in the week. Arsenal has also contributed to relief efforts through the Arsenal Foundation and Save the Children.
