Rivals projects Buford Wolves to end championship reign in 2026
The Wolves, ranked No. 1 in the 2025 Composite, face a rigorous schedule featuring early marquee matchups against North Carolina and Florida powerhouses.

Rivals has forecast that Buford High School will fail to retain its Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class 6A state championship in the 2026 season. The prediction marks a significant shift for the Wolves, who concluded the 2025 campaign as the No. 1 team in the final Rivals Composite High School Football Rankings.
The projected 2026 schedule represents one of the most challenging fixtures in the program’s recent history. The season opens on 22 August against Gainesville in Georgia, followed by a road trip to face Mallard Creek in North Carolina on 4 September. A home contest against Miami Central from Florida is scheduled for 11 September.
According to the breakdown, Buford is expected to suffer two defeats during the regular season. The first loss is projected to occur against Miami Central, with a second setback anticipated against Grayson on 18 September. These losses would interrupt an otherwise strong start to the campaign.
Following the back-to-back defeats, the Wolves are projected to secure six consecutive victories from 25 September to 6 November. This winning streak includes road games against Seckinger and Dacula, alongside home matches against Collins Hill, Discovery, and Central Gwinnett, positioning the team for a playoff berth.
Despite the strong finish to the regular season, the forecast indicates Buford will fall short in the championship game. The prediction highlights the need for backup quarterback Hunter to step into a larger role, following limited action in 2025 where he completed 16 of 24 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns.
Buford’s 2025 victory secured the school’s 15th state title, trailing only Valdosta for the most championships in Georgia high school football history. The program is widely recognised for its competitive athletics and strong academic standing within the public school system.
The 2026 outlook also identifies several key players to monitor, including ATH Braylon Williams, IOL Eli Williams, and linebackers Joshua Echols and Ethan Hauser. The depth of the roster is expected to be tested against the tougher schedule, with the team aiming to maintain its status among the nation’s elite high school programmes.
